“I have a great practice. It’s been years since I’ve had to worry about making payroll.

But I’m ready for more. I’m up for new challenges! What’s next!?!?”

  • You are on your way to making yourself redundant in your practice.
  • You want to know what you’re really capable of as an entrepreneur but have very few people in your life who think the way you do about the business of your law firm to talk with whose opinions & experience you can trust.
  • You’re grossing at least $300,000 per year but that number could easily be into the multiple seven figures too.

Who you are

You’re a successful entrepreneur who happens to be running a law firm and you’re probably having a lot of fun at it aren’t you! But you’re very driven and you’re wondering if it’s possible to actually create a legacy business that has a life beyond yourself (it is!). You’ve probably even toyed with the idea of going out in search of business opportunities outside of the practice of law for the answer to the question I know is burning inside of you: “What’s next?”

Your friends & family likely don’t understand where you’re coming from or why you’re not just happy with what you have and the lawyers around you…well let’s be honest you’ve successfully broken the money-for-effort bind that holds them hostage and you hardly even think of what they do and what you do as being the same thing anymore do you? I know. It can be pretty lonely where you’re at. Exciting. But lonely.

What your issues tend to be

Even though you’re running your business successfully, under the surface, it’s still too much of an ad hoc operation, disparate pieces put together over the years, not fully functioning like a fully e-mythified law firm yet. You still do many things on a daily basis that you know aren’t part of your “unique ability,” and that makes you the bottleneck when it comes to how things get done in the business. Secretly you wonder if you’re somehow creating or at least enabling this situation because you don’t know what you want to be doing or how to make that happen. So despite the fact that you have a team in place, you’re still working on things you’re not passionate about and that fall outside of your “brilliance work.”

At the same time, you realize that your big vision can’t actually materialize because the infrastructure of your business isn’t strong enough to handle that much growth and could prove to be disastrous because as good as things are, you know that in a perfect storm scenario the business could implode.

Plus on top of all of this you’re lonely. You know you can’t discuss most of this with your staff. You can’t discuss any of it with your clients. You feel you probably shouldn’t be discussing how much opportunity is still stored up in your business, your hopes, dreams or your concerns with other lawyers around you (as if they’d even understand half of what you’d be talking about!).

And last but not least you feel uncomfortable discussing these thoughts & ideas with your family because notwithstanding that you know they want the best for you it’s not like they really understand what it is you do as an entrepreneurial lawyer.

(hint: we can teach them).

What you need most right now

There are some important mindset and organizational shifts that need to occur to enable this growth happen.

First, you must understand the gaps between where your law firm is today, and where you want it to be. Paradoxically, you actually have to work even less and further let go of the controls, creating even more systems, removing yourself even further from the day-to-day operations of your business, making some important infrastructure changes and hiring a seasoned team of professionals you trust. This is critical because there are lots of things in your practice that anyone who is properly trained and managed can do with a reasonable degree of consistent proficiency. But there are only a few things in your practice that only you can do and those things you do brilliantly are the things that are the most fun for you, aren’t they?

Focus on the big vision and growth strategy, and implementation are critical if we’re ever going to discover the true limits of your potential because if you’re reading this in earnest, you & I know you haven’t even gotten close!

Bringing clarity to your vision, regular guidance and structured masterminding with your peers throughout this process is key.
